May 25, 2024 – New York, NY – New York City Mayor Eric Adams, together with a distinguished group of African diplomats, the African diaspora, and New Yorkers attended the African Union Flag Raising Ceremony,  a brilliant celebration of African unity and culture  in Bowling Green Park, New York City.

Africa Day is celebrated globally, and the African Union has designated  2024 as the Year of Education.

A procession of African ambassadors and local officials kicked off the ceremony at 2:00 PM, accompanied by traditional African music that set a festive tone.

In his speech, Mayor Eric Adams emphasized the value of diversity, unity, and the important contributions made by African communities to New York City’s cultural fabric.
